Inaugural SF Themed Pot Luck Dinner–Smoked Food

On Sunday evening, April 25th, a group of (mostly) novice “smokers” gathered at Mara and Spencer’s home in Burlington to share the dishes that they had prepared for the first SFVT themed pot luck dinner. We were challenged to try our hands at smoking some kind of food as a way to spread our culinary wings. The results were amazing and delicious. Here’s a listing of the dishes that we enjoyed together: sage wood smoked heritage chicken; hickory smoked potatoes with paprika rub, yogurt sauce, and fresh chervil; smoky chipotle black beans; tea smoked scallops on endive with mustard sauce and clover sprouts; smoked homemade mozzarella; Vermont green maplewood smoked mushroom crostini with marjoram; hican smoked whiskey truffles; and, hickory and cinnamon smoked s’mores with homemade graham crackers and marshmallows. To accompany this amazing menu, we had Vermont hard cider, elderberry port, and, a variety of wines. One of the best parts of the evening (aside from savoring every bite) was time outside on the deck where each person described his/her culinary efforts. What fun! Every single person wants to have a second smoked food themed pot luck dinner now that we’ve learned so much about smoking foods. The evening ended with a rousing game of Foodie Fight Trivia Game. Stay tuned for information about our next themed pot luck. Wonder what that theme will be?!?
