SFVT Board Meeting, 4.14.10

On April 14th, the board members of SFVT met for our monthly meeting.After our now traditional delicious dinner, we discussed a number of items, including:

There is going to be news about a reduced membership fee for joining SFUSA (which includes membership in SFVT) coming soon.At the same time, interested persons may choose a dual membership in SFUSA along with the Vermont Fresh Network (VFN).Details are nearly worked out so stayed tuned.

Mara described the application process for Terra Madre which will be held October 21st-25th 2010 in Torino, Italy.This event has been growing in popularity since its inception in 2004 so the number of attendees is being reduced by 25% this year.Jen Smith will be our point person from the board for Terra Madre.(For detailed information about Terra Madre as well as all SFUSA news, go to www.slowfoodusa.org. )

We spent a good deal of time refining plans for the Intervale Summer of Taste events which will be held on Thursday evenings this summer (July 8th-August 26th) at the Intervale Center.We’ll taste such foods as yak; artisanal chocolate; heritage pork; heritage tomatoes, and more.On September 23rd, there will be a RAFT foods grow out and tasting.RAFT (Renewing America’s Food Traditions) is an alliance of food, farming, environmental and culinary advocates who have joined together to identify, restore and celebrate America’s biologically and culturally diverse food traditions through conservation, education, promotion and regional networking.

Mara has suggested the idea of inviting interested SFVT members in various parts of Vermont to become “captains” in their area.They could plan events, meetings, etc.The SFVT board would support them in any way that we can.So far Mara has heard from a couple who live in Pomfret and we are hoping that more members step forward so that SF events can be offered all over the state.

Our first potluck is scheduled for April 25th at Mara and Spencer’s house.The theme is smoked foods.We are hoping to have monthly themed potluck dinners somewhere in the state.We’ll post photos of these events on our website.

On April 28th, Bluebird Tavern will have a community night that will benefit SFVT with 10% of the evening’s proceeds.Board members will be available to respond to questions and a SFVT brochure will be provided to each diner.

Our next meeting is scheduled for May 12th.
