World Disco Soup Day 2021

World Disco Soup Day is a global annual event that builds awareness of ending food waste. In Vermont, we usually gather to chop and process thousands of pounds of locally grown and donated vegetables and give them to Feeding Chittenden (formerly the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf).

We're keeping it digital for Disco Soup 2021: Since we still can't safely gather in person, you’re invited to join us for an online cooking session. Bring your favorite soup recipe and meet us on Zoom to stir up a batch to share with friends and neighbors! Help us commit to celebrating this annual tradition of prepping, cooking, and dancing in the kitchen, while participating in an unprecedented challenge against food waste.

Due to the lingering dangers of Covid-19, we can't donate our food to this year. Instead, please consider a donation to these community organizations working to end hunger and homelessness in Vermont: Pathways Vermont at www.pathwaysvermont.org/donate or Salvation Farms at www.mightycause.com/organization/Salvation-Farms

Here's how to get involved in this fun event:
Register yourself as participating in World Disco Soup Day by filling out this quick form from the Slow Food Youth Network, so they can get a sense of how many people are participating globally.

Join Slow Food Vermont's virtual Disco Soup party, 11am-12pm on Saturday, April 24
With us in the background, cook up a soup, stew, or other crowd-friendly dish for your family or your community. Register here via Zoom. Make sure to spread the word on your Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #wdsd21

Share your meals with someone who needs (or wants) them! This could be a friend, a neighbor, family member, anyone!

Practice safe cooking and sanitation: Wear a mask over your mouth and nose, wash hands frequently, wipe down surfaces, and do not prepare food if you are feeling ill in any way. Avoid meat if you can; it helps with delaying perishability.

Reach out to either of our Board co-chairs, Margaret Woodruff at margaret.woodruff@gmail.com or Francesca Arato at francesca.arato@gmail.com if you have any questions.

We can't wait to "see" you on Saturday for our virtual cooking party!
Register here via Zoom.
