Things To Eat With Bread!
For our second Slow Food Supper of 2014, we are honored to be invited by our beloved local artisan breadmaker, Gérard Rubaud to his bakery in Westford, VT to celebrate bread, and the things we like to put on top of it! Gérard specializes in one bread, a sourdough miche that uses a combination of wheat, spelt and rye. His country loaf is lauded as some of the best in the state of VT, and has been picked up by Saveur magazine as one of 20 greatest bakeries in America.
On many people’s lists of “Best Bread EVER”, Gérard Rubaud’s traditional French loaves au levain have an air of mystery and rarity. They are hard to find in stores, sell out within the hour of being delivered, and are hoarded by more than a few. Here is a rare chance to demystify the legend, and come meet the baker himself, tour the bakery and share a meal at the hearth-side table.
For this potluck, bring all of your favorite dips, spreads, butters, tartines, jams and wonderful flavors that you like to put atop a slice of unparalleled bread! The oven will be hot and can be used for reheating or quick roasting a topping. Use the peel and get the feel of wood-fired cookery in Gérard’s self-designed custom built double hearth oven. This evening will surely be a wonderful gathering of artisan bread enthusiasts, and a celebration of a true Slow Food artisan.
Please bring your potluck contribution ready to serve, and please provide serving utensils.
Please carpool if possible.
Slow Food Suppers are potlucks, and they are always free to attend. Just RSVP to this ticket so we know how many people we’ll be hosting. This year, each Slow Food Supper will take place in a different location, across the state – this one will be in Westford. These events are always packed and promise a good time, so if you haven’t attended one yet, please do!
We look forward to seeing you there!
