Sunday June 28th:  British Picnic

When you see a properly packed hamper sitting atop blankets layed out on the lawn under heavy pine bows, you know you’re in for a classic British Picnic.  You’ll require a Pimm’s Cup and a game of croquet to start, delicious snacks and you’ll need to finish it all off with a proper nap.  You don’t have to be a Slow Food member to attend.  Bring a partner, a friend, or come solo and learn something new about Picnicin’ it like a Brit.

The Details:

This class takes place in my (Jessica Bongard’s) home kitchen located in Jericho, VT.  It’s extremely important to know how to bring delicious food with you, wherever you may go.  There is no need to sacrifice style, grace and most importantly flavor when out and about.  Slow Food VT members receive a $5 cash in-hand discount upon arrival.

The Recipes:

Pimm’s Cup – Pimm’s No.1, lemonade, ginger beer, cucumber ribbons, borage flowers

Chilled Pea & Mint Soup – Silky, green, cool and refreshing

The Ploughman’s Lunch – Sliced meats, Stilton & Cheddar, chutney, pickled eggs and grilled bread

Eton Mess – Classic strawberries and cream

There just might be a bit of proper ale and cider floating about as well.

You’ll go home with a full stomach and recipe packets including photos of each dish taken by yours truly.  Not to mention a newfound desire to take a picnic, wherever and whenever you can.
